What’s Happening? Hittin’ the road with McDermott to Kwanzaa Celebrations

(WTNH) — This time of year folks celebrate Hannukah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. We recently got a history lesson about Kwanzaa.

Kwanzaa is a 7-day celebration of African culture and heritage starting December 26th. David Smith, president and co-founder of I.P.R.O.V.E. says Kwanzaa “is to give honor to our ancestors who came before us. That’s what it’s all about.”

There is a different principle celebrated for each of the 7 days of Kwanzza. “There’s unity, self-respect, cooperative work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith,” said Smith. Family and friends celebrate each of these principles together during the holiday.

Kwanzaa Celebration on 12/26/15   will be held at the Elks Lodge 87 Webster St. New Haven, CT. from 3pm to 6pm.  The event is free to the public.
