HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) Many of you may be distracted with holiday shopping and preparing for Christmas but there is an important deadline coming up for people with flexible spending accounts. December 31st is fast-approaching and for anyone with a flexible spending account, if you still have money in there, you need to act fast before you lose it.  But, don’t worry! News 8 has your back with a few suggestions.

Here are 8 ideas for how you can spend that money:

-Get your cholesterol checked. Most test kits are covered.

-If you’ve been meaning to get that new pair of glasses, you can use your money on that.

-Moms-to-be you can spend it on things like child birth classes

-Thinking about getting a flu shot? Spend your FSA on that.

-Smokers looking to quit should consider spending leftover money on a smoking cessation program.

-Squeeze in an appointment with your chiropractor.

-Or pick up a first aid kit.

-Anyone who may need a walker, cane or crutches should consider getting them before the new year.

In fact we talked to Robert Porter, the Chair of the Finance Department at Quinnipiac, who said buying things that you may need later is a good idea.

If you need more ideas, you can find out what specifics are included in your plan by talking to your human resources director.
