GREENWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — A New York man faces criminal charges after police say he left a machete in the bathroom of a Greenwich McDonald’s.
Police first received a report of a black man ‘brandishing and concealing’ a machete in a gray plastic shopping bag heading towards the Greenwich Train Station. Responding officers were not able to locate the suspect.
Another call reported that a black male subject inside the McDonald’s on West Putnam Avenue had left a machete in the restroom area.
Upon their arrival at that McDonald’s, officers identified the suspect as 35-year-old Eric D. Eddings of Port Chester. Police say Eddings was creating a disturbance in the restaurant by mumbling loudly and asking customers for money.
An inspection of the bathroom revealed the earlier described machete. The 24″ weapon was found inside the gray shopping bag on the restroom floor. A small plastic baggie containing a white substance was found on the bathroom counter next to a pay stub with Eddings’ name printed on it. Police say Eddings was also carrying a 11″ knife concealed under his jacket.
Eddings has been charged with breach of peace, possession of narcotics, and carrying dangerous weapons. He posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on December 28.
