Police: Robber hits store clerk with hammer, steals $500

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Police are searching for a man who hit a Hartford gas station clerk with a hammer and stole more than $500 in cash over the weekend.

The Hartford Courant reports the unidentified suspect robbed the Valero on Maple Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Saturday. There was one customer in the store at the time.

Police say the suspect struck the clerk in the shoulder and bolted with the money. The clerk suffered only a minor injury and refused medical treatment at the scene.

The suspect is described as being over six feet tall and was dressed in dark clothes, dark gloves and a dark mask during the robbery. Police say he fled west on Linmoore Street.

An investigation is ongoing.
