MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men have been arrested after police say they broke into a Manchester home while two children were inside.
Around 10:30 Tuesday morning, Manchester police say they received a call from a woman who said that her Walnut Street home was being broken into. She told police that she was not home, but her children, ages 11 and 12, were home and heard what they believed to be two people breaking into the house.
The children hid until police arrived, entered the home, and safely secured them. Police searched the home for the suspected burglars and found them in the basement. Police also found a .22 caliber handgun.
Police arrested 29-year-old Clinton Mitchell and 27-year-old Michael Walters, both of Springfield, Massachusetts. Both men were charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a handgun. Walters was also charged with interfering with police.
