Homeless man arrested after attempted robbery

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — A homeless man was arrested late Sunday night after attempting to steal $41.00 of merchandise from Willimantic’s Stop & Shop.

Willimantic officers were dispatched to the Stop & Shop on Main Street for a report of attempted shoplifting. Arnold Seaver, 46, was arrested for stealing $41.00 worth of groceries.

During the process of apprehending Seaver, an officer had to use his pepper spray. Police say Seaver pushed his way through a security guard while leaving the grocery store. This added breach of peace and interfering with an officer charges to Seaver’s larceny and robbery charges.

Held overnight on a $25,000 bond, Seaver appeared in Danielson Superior Court on Monday.
