1 dead in East Hartford single-car crash


EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One person is dead after a single-car crash on I-84 in East Hartford.

Connecticut State Police say just before 4 a.m. Saturday a Dodge Magnum was driving on I-84 westbound in East Hartford. As the vehicle approached the Exit 57 off-ramp, it struck the Exit 57 sign.

Police say upon impact, the car continued off the left shoulder, struck the metal beam guardrail, and struck the concrete overhead sign support and DOT electrical box, head on.

As a result of the crash, the vehicle caught on fire, killing the driver.

State Police have not identified the driver.

Anyone with information on this accident is asked to call State Police at (860)534-1000.
