Indiana family wants answers after hardworking teen’s presents stolen

DUGGER, Indiana (WTHI)–A Christmas tree sits quietly in its corner, presents unwrapped, lights shining bright. But this holiday was not so happy for Jody Eslinger and her son, Colt.

On Christmas Eve, Colt was with his mother while his father left home to run an errand. In the few minutes he was gone, Jody says, someone broke into the house and stole Colt’s Xbox, PS4, controllers and games.

“I can’t believe this just happened,” Colt said. “Out of all odds, it was me.”

The thieves didn’t just take Colt’s Christmas presents. They took a game system he worked all summer to buy himself.

“I worked all summer, in the hot, out in the cornfield, I worked around here taking out garbage cans, putting them back, mowing yards around here,” Colt said.

“He’s a hard-working kid,” Jody said. “To know that it wasn’t just our money, our Christmas gift, it was something he worked hard and contributed to, it just hurts me. I don’t know why someone would do that.”

The family is now working to get answers, posting on Facebook about the missing items and hoping someone will find them and return them.

“I’ve just been sitting around, watching TV, thinking, ‘oh maybe it will come back,’ sometimes I just look out the window and see if someone is walking down, bringing it back,” Colt said.
