Wintry Mix to Rain on Tuesday

Here are your Monday Evening Connecticut weather headlines from Storm Team 8 Senior Meteorologist Fred Campagna:

  • The first winter storm of the season will feature more sleet and rain than snow in CT.
  • Snow and sleet will develop between 10pm-1am Monday night. There will likely be a quick change to sleet statewide.
  • Sleet may be heavy at times overnight, with some accumulation of ice pellets likely. An inch or so of sleet is possible in most of the state.

  • The temperature will be in the mid to upper 20s inland to upper 20s and low 30s at the Shoreline.
  • A change from sleet to rain is likely near the Shoreline between 6-9 am. Of course, the timing of the changeover is critical for the morning commute. The most likely time for the changeover is around 7 am.
  • It will stay icy inland for a few hours after sunrise. A change to cold rain is likely be midday. The temperature will rise to the mid 30s inland and low 40s at the Shoreline in the afternoon.
  • Rain will end by late in the day. It will be damp into tomorrow evening.
  • The temperature may fall to near freezing in some inland locations by dawn on Wednesday. Watch out for a few icy spots.
  • Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 40s.
  • Rain showers are possible Wednesday night with lows in the mid to upper 30s.
  • Thursday looks dry with highs in the mid to upper 40s.
  • It will be breezy and cool, but not very cold to ring in 2016 on New Year’s Eve. The temperature will be in the 30s, with a wind chill in the 20s.
  • New Year’s Day looks partly to mostly sunny with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.
  • The weather looks mainly dry and chilly through the weekend.  The high temperature will struggle to reach 40 between Friday and Sunday. It may be even colder on Monday.
  • A few flurries are possible in the cold pattern this weekend.
