NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — The staff at Auto Zone was going full throttle for most of the morning.
“Actually we did expect to be busy. We have displays set up,” says manager Carlos Roche. “We have everything in stock ready to go.”
Wiper blades and batteries were the hottest sellers on this cold and messy morning. Vagan Bryant was among many feeling the effects of Tuesday’s chilly start.
“Sometimes the cold weather can kill a car battery and that’s what it did for me,” says Bryant.
After he bought the new battery Scott Mills a worker at the New London store installed it. He’s also been installing a lot of windshield wipers.
“Wipers is a constant today. It’s already been about probably about thirteen or fourteen customers just for wiper blades alone,” says Mills who talked to News8 as he installed Bryant’s battery. “This is my second battery in the last half hour.”
Tow truck companies have also had a busy morning with fender benders and more.
“We had a jack knifed tractor trailer early this morning,” says Lynn Dole the dispatcher at Courville’s Garage in Montville. She has two heavy duty wreckers which helped a box truck get unstuck from a driveway and responded to a roll over.
“That unfortunately was a plow truck,” says Dole.
Since the snow and sleet turned over to rain along the shoreline they were less busy than with other winter storms but the wintry mix did serve as a reminder for many to prepare for the worst.
