NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) If you got a gift card this holiday season that you’re not that excited about, there’s a way to get something you really want.  You can exchange your unwanted gift cards or some stores, like Target, will even buy them off you, albeit at a lower price.

Target has partnered up with gift card exchange websites to give you another option if the gift card you got isn’t exactly a place you like to dine or shop. That way, the money spent doesn’t go to waste.

Here’s how it works: you can contact a participating store or go online and let them know what gift cards you want to sell or exchange.

You likely won’t get the full value but hopefully you can get something you like a little more.

For example, a $100 gift card from one place might get you an $85 gift card somewhere else.

Target is exchanging cards from more than 600 brands including Old Navy, the Cheesecake Factory, Staples and Pottery Barn.

There are also a number of popular gift card exchange websites you can use to buy or sell gift cards at a discount including giftcardgranny.com, cardcash.com and nextworth.com.
