PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Indiegogo project based in Perth, Australia has raised nearly $200,000 after the idea went viral on Facebook.
The Seabin Project is a “automated marina rubbish bin that collects floating rubbish, debris and oil 24/7,” the project’s creators wrote on the Indiegogo fundraising page.
Founders Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski write that trash and debris are caught in a natural fiber bag. The trash stays in the can and the rest of the water flows through it.
“A simple solution to our oceans pollution,” Turton and Ceglinski write. They say they have already installed the devices at some ports and marinas and want to expand their idea.
