Suspect arrested after 3 officers struck by fleeing car in East Hartford

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Three East Hartford police officers were taken to the hospital after they were injured by a fleeing drug suspect.

Police say at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers approached a car in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn and Suites in East Hartford that they believed was being used for drug transactions or drug use.

When the driver of the car saw the officers, he backed out of his parking space, pinning two officers against another parked car. The suspect struck a third officer while leaving the parking lot. Officers fired at the car, but the suspect was not hit.

Another officer saw the car and engaged it in a short pursuit before the suspect voluntarily stopped on Knollwood Drive. Police arrested 52-year-old Kevin McNeilly, with a last known address of Manchester.

The three officers were taken to Hartford Hospital. Two have been released, but one remains hospitalized overnight for observation.

McNeilly is charged with engaging police in pursuit, interfering with police, possession of narcotics, and tampering with evidence.

Police say this is still an open investigation and more charges against McNeilly are expected.
