CORNWALL, Conn. (WTNH)– Two Winsted men were arrested for burglarizing Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort in Cornwall on Monday.
Police say just after 12:30 a.m., they responded to Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort at 46 Great Hollow Road in Cornwall, to the report of a burglary. Police discovered that the suspects had forced their way in to the resort through a basement window. The men were then captured on surveillance video destroying three security cameras, smashing a wooden office door and breaking a metal door to the money vault. That damage alone was estimated at about $5,000.
The suspects also took ten money drawers from the vault which contained $2,050 in cash, ski passes and a large bucket of loose change.
After an investigation that led troopers to identify a suspect vehicle and a third person involved who served as a lookout, police obtained search and seizure warrants to serve at three separate addresses and the vehicle. It was during those searches that police recovered the cash drawers, ski passes, $1,137.12 in cash, as well as clothing worn and tools used during the burglary. Police say they also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Police then arrested 20-year-old Ralph Baldelli at 6 a.m. and later 20-year-old Terrance Edwards at 1 p.m. for the burglaries. Baldelli was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, larceny, conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, and conspiracy to commit larceny. He was held on $25,000 bond. Edwards was charged with larceny, conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit larceny. He was also held on $25,000 bond.
Police say they will be applying for an arrest warrant for the third suspect in the case who has not yet been identified.
