Teen arrested for murder in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police have arrested a teenager charged with murdering a 34-year-old man.

Police say the Hamden teenager turned himself in Saturday at police headquarters in New Haven. He was arrested for murder and remanded to the custody of the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport.

The 17-year-old is charged with stabbing Chamar Suggs in the abdomen with a kitchen knife on New Year’s Day in the 300 block of Winthrop Avenue.

Suggs was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he underwent surgery and was eventually listed in stable condition. On Jan. 7, Suggs was removed from life-support at the hospital and died as a result of the assault.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
