BEACON FALLS, Conn. (WTNH) — Three people were sent to the hospital and one is suffering from life-threatening injuries after a car crashed into a utility pole in Beacon Falls.

According to the Beacon Falls Fire Department, a vehicle carrying three people was traveling west on Blackberry Hill Road when the driver lost control and slid sideways into a utility pole at the intersection of Oakwood Drive.

Fire officials say the impact was serious enough that the pole partially went into the driver’s side and trapped the driver inside.

It took firefighters 12 minutes to extricate the driver from the heavy damage of the crash. The two passengers were able to get out of the car on their own.

All three people were transported to Waterbury Hospital and the driver is suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to firefighters.

State police officers and Eversource crews are still on scene.
