Woman dies after car submerged in Bridgewater lake

BRIDGEWATER, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Milford woman has died after she was pulled from Lake Lillinonah when her car went off the boat launch Saturday afternoon.

Bridgewater and Connecticut State Police were called to Lake Lillinonah in Bridgewater early Saturday afternoon after a report that a car had gone off the boat launch and into the lake.

DEEP responded and took over the rescue. DEEP officials say 46-year-old Ewa Bielska, of New Milford was pulled from the icy waters after she was in the vehicle submerged for more than two hours. Bielska, who was unconscious when pulled, was taken to Danbury Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 4 p.m.

DEEP says the car and Bielska were recovered about 40-yards from the boat launch and in about 40-feet of water.

An investigation into this incident remains open.
