Tampa shelter takes in Mississippi dogs after flooding

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – The Humane Society of Tampa Bay took in more than a dozen dogs displaced by the flooding in Mississippi, the society said Sunday.

The dogs come from the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society in Natchez, MS. They are expected to arrive at the shelter by about 3 p.m. Sunday. There are five heartworm positive dogs among them, that will be treated at the society.

The transport was facilitated by the Human Society of the US which has already moved about 100 dogs from the Natchez shelter. This is done to make room for the evacuees’ animals because the NACHS serves as a temporary emergency shelter in the cases when an evacuation is ordered.

The Humane Society said the dogs will be available for adoption early next week.
