HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Police arrested two New Britain men on gun charges Sunday night after officers said one of them fired a gun out of a car’s sunroof.
Joel Sanchez,18, of Farmington Avenue, was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a gun, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and having a gun with an obliterated serial number police said.
Edgar Garcia, also 18, of Clinton Street, was also charged with criminal trespass, having a weapon in a vehicle and possession of a gun with an obliterated serial number, according to police.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, police officers responded to an alert by a ShotSpotter gunshot detection system that a shot had been fired in the area of 68 School Street.
When police arrived on scene they were able to get a description of the vehicle that the shot came from.
Police said they found a vehicle matching the description behind 25 Colonial Street, where they arrested two of the three occupants. The third suspect fled on foot.
Sanchez and Garcia admitted that the shot was fired by Sanchez out of the car’s sunroof, police said.
Police seized the guns, a Smith & Wesson, .32-caliber revolver with six live rounds of ammunition and a Ruger LCP .380-caliber pistol with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition.
According to police, there were no report of injuries.
