WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Star Trek Deep Space Nine actress and West Haven native Chase Masteron spent some time in her hometown Thursday morning to talk about a very serious topic…bullying.
Masterson co-founded the anti-bullying group “Pop Culture Hero Coalition”, along with Carrie Goldman. It’s aim is to teach kids about being leaders and heroes if they see bullying happening around them. Besides the Pop Culture Hero Coalition, they also heard about the RULER program, which aims to teach about social and emotional learning.
“Growing up is never easy, we all have issues identity, rejection, self-worth…questions so many questions,” said Chase Masterson, actress.
“They’re looking to accomplish for kids to start talking about their emotions and understand them and learn how to deal with them, so that when they’re in a conflict situation, they can think about what they’re doing,” said Pat Libero, West Haven Board of Ed.
Leaders of the state’s school districts, as well as state legislators were on hand for Thursday’s discussion.
