Old Saybrook robbery suspect arrested

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH)  –  A man,  who threatened a Stop and Shop security guard who stopped him for shoplifting, has been arrested for both incidents that occurred Monday night.

According to Old Saybrook Police, 49 year old Barry Marchinkoski,  a homeless man from the Middletown area, was trying to steal razor blades and lighters valued at over $200 from the Elm Street Store, when he was stopped in the parking lot shortly after 9 p.m.  He threatened the security guard with a knife and fled.   There were no injuries.   Marchinkoski was found a short time later a short distance away with a knife, a folding pocket knife, heroin, suboxone and needles.

Marchinkoski is charged with robbery 2nd degree, larceny 6th degree, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was also charged with violation of probation.
