Connecticut residents gear up for winter storm

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – At the Big Y grocery store in North Haven there are people rushing so they can eventually stay in place.

“I’ve got the snowblower,” said Donna Limauro of Hamden.

Saturday, a snowstorm is expected to hit the Connecticut shoreline, which has many doing some last minute shopping so they will be ready in the event leaving their homes isn’t an option.

Where folks are also preparing for the snow is up north in Berlin at Eversource Headquarters. Officials with the electric company tell News 8 they are ready to respond to any damage or outages the storm may cause.

“We are keeping a close eye on the track of the storm,” said Tricia Modifica, a spokesperson with Eversource. “We have all of our crews ready to go. They’ll be stationed around the state with a heavier emphasis on the shoreline.”

One way that you can get ready for the snowstorm is to create an emergency storm kit. Include in it things like batteries, a battery-operated radio, flashlights, non-perishable food items, a first aid kit and water.

There will be a full moon when the winter weather hits the state, which will put some communities in places, like West Haven, at risk for coastal flooding.
