New London prepares for approaching storm

New London, Conn. (WTNH)- New London is gearing up for a snowy weekend by getting its Emergency Operations Center ready to open. The facility will be staffed if conditions deteriorate.

City Hall also says the plows will be out ahead of the storm to treat  local streets, parking lots, school parking lots and city owned sidewalks. The city has also stored more than 1000 tons of pre-treated salt to be used on the roads. City officials also say the will closely monitor the Shaw’s Cove Pumping Station with the possibility of higher than normal tides throughout the weekend.

Reminders are also going out to city residents to stay away from any downed power lines, bring pets inside during the storm and remember to shovel your sidewalk after the storm has passed.
