PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — What began as a report of shoplifting led to drug charges for a Jewett City man Friday afternoon.
Just after 4:30 p.m., Plainfield police officers responded to the Better Value store, located at 657 Norwich Road, on a report of a man shoplifting. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, later identified as 54-year-old Mark Parker, of Jewett City.
According to police, the Better Value store’s loss prevention agent was able to recover one item taken from the meat department. Parker told officers that that item was the only thing he took from the store, and denied taking anything else.
Police conducted a pat down search of Parker, and discovered that he had two more items hidden in his pants. Parker was placed under arrest, and while conducting a more thorough search, officers discovered 4 marijuana cigarettes, and a small container with crack cocaine inside of it.
Parker is charged with possession of narcotics, marijuana possession, and larceny. Parker was released on a $10,000 bond, and is scheduled to be in Danielson Superior Court on February 8th.
