WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A West Hartford man was seriously injured after crashing into another car on snow covered roads Saturday evening.
Police say just before 5 p.m., they responded to a car accident on Bloomfield Avenue, just south of Sunny Reach Drive, where a Volvo, driven by 75-year-old Theodoro Buitrago, of West Hartford, lost control on the snow covered roadway. The Volvo crossed the yellow lines and the front of a Volkswagen then collided with the driver’s side of the Volvo.
Buitrago had to be extricated by fire crews from his car, which received heavy damage on the driver’s side. He was treated on the scene and taken to St. Francis Hospital for serious injures. He is reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the Volkwagen, 56-year-old Joslyn Campbell, of Windsor, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to St. Francis Hospital. His car sustained heavy damage to the front end.
The incident remains under investigation by the West Hartford Police Crash Reconstruction Team. They say it was snowing at the time of the accident and the road was slippery due to the snow.
