Man To Be Charged After Deadly Hartford Shooting

Hartford Police Department

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One man will soon be facing murder charges after a July shooting on New Park Avenue.

Hartford police say Daniel Sampel was shot multiple times on July 9th and brought to Hartford Hospital, where he later died. Investigators interviewed witnesses and searched for evidence.

Last Thursday, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Sergio Martinez. Martinez will be charged with Sampel’s murder, along with criminal possession of a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

However, Martinez is currently behind bars in New York State for unrelated charges. Officials with both jurisdictions in New York State and Connecticut are both working to have Martinez brought to Hartford, where he will eventually face those charges.
