VIENNA, Austria (WTNH)– Police are investigating the homicide of an American woman working as a nanny in Vienna, after she was found dead in her apartment.
The New York Daily News reports that 25-year-old Lauren Mann, of Colorado, was found half naked lying next to what Austrian police say was a “considerable amount of blood.”
On Tuesday evening, police forced their way into her apartment after the family she works for as an au pair called the police when she didn’t show up for work. According to the NY Daily News, she was then found dead on a mattress in a bedroom with a sweater across her face and her arms stretched along her body. Police say that all the light bulbs in her apartment were burned out and had to be replaced for the investigation.
Mann was reportedly sharing her apartment with a Gambian immigrant who was there illegally, but her relationship with him is unclear at this time, according to local newspapers.
Police say they are treating the death as a homicide. They have been interviewing neighbors, friends and her employer, as well as looking for possible motives.
The U.S. Embassy and State Department extended their “deepest condolences to her loved ones,” in a statement.
Mann’s death comes just two weeks after another American woman was murdered abroad. Police arrested a Senegalese man in connection with the death of 35-year-old American, Ashley Olsen, who was found dead in her apartment in Florence, Italy.
