West Hartford Mayor leaving for LEGO

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)  –  The Mayor of West Hartford has announced he will be leaving the town to take a job with the LEGO Group.

Scott Slifka, during his state of the town address, said he will be leaving the town council and his role as Mayor in the Spring after being named Deputy General Council of the LEGO Group where he will be reporting directly to LEGO’s General Counsel in Denmark.   In his position he will oversee a team of lawyers based in London, Denmark and Asia.

Slifka has been West Hartford’s youngest & longest serving Mayor.

In his announcement Slifka said “As exciting as the role will be, it will also be very demanding – and I’ve concluded that it won’t be compatible with running a similarly demand town in one’s spare time while trying to be a good husband and father.   He also said “the current mayoral salary doesn’t make it much of a debate” – a reference to the volunteer position of Mayor he has held since 2004.
