OLD LYME, Conn. (WTNH)– A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Old Lyme Monday morning.
Amtrak police confirm to News 8 that a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a train in the area of Buttonball Road. The identity of the person killed or what they were doing on the tracks is unknown at this time.
Amtrak officials say the incident happened around 8:45 a.m., when train number 2190, the Acela express service from New York to Boston, made contact with a person on the tracks, four miles east of Old Saybrook station.
Traffic is being held in the area while the investigation is ongoing. Train traffic resumed before noon. Amtrak police are working with local authorities with jurisdiction in that area.
