State trooper shot and killed in hunting accident

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WTNH)– A Connecticut state trooper has been killed in a hunting accident near San Antonio, Texas.

Police have identified the trooper as Stephen Davis of Hebron. Texas police said Davis was shot accidentally by another man, who police identified as Alvin Chase of Warren, Maine.

Chase told police that he was trying to shoot a wild hog. Davis was found lying in brush, face-up and unresponsive, with an apparent wound to the left side of his torso.

Davis died at the scene.

Connecticut State Police said they will have a statement on Davis’ death on Tuesday.
