Police find marijuana grow while responding to house fire

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hartford man has been arrested after officials found a marijuana grow operations in his house while responding to a house fire.

On Wednesday, Hartford Police and Fire Departments were called to a structure fire at 180 Bonner Street. After the fire was put out, police found a marijuana grow operation in the master bedroom. Hartford Vice and Narcotics Unit Detectives arrived to the home and found marijuana in the bedroom and basement areas.

Officials obtained a search warrant, found and seized 20 marijuana plants, as well as several items used to grow marijuana plants. The resident, 32-year-old Vincente Santiago, arrived home and was placed under arrested.

Santiago is cahrged with illegal cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana, operating a drug factory, and possession within 1,500 feet of a school.

Hartford Fire Officials say the fire was not caused by the marijuana.
