GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Ocean State Job Lot is shut down after a car smashes through the front of the store.
Police say it was a Ford Focus which did the damage. That car was removed and workers quickly worked to board up the opening.
“Just to make sure it’s secure so nobody walks in and gets hurt and nothing falls on them,” says Tony Marello of Marello Construction.
Before it was boarded up News8 took a look inside. The car smashed right through the front doors of the Groton store at 11:45 Friday morning.
“Actually took the door out and ended up inside into the cashier stations.” says Marello.
Police say two people reported injuries. One refused treatment while a worker was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
“Very dangerous absolutely,” says Marello.
Fortunately no one was in the doorway when the car came crashing through it. The elderly driver was not hurt.
The building has been deemed structurally sound but may need more extensive repairs.
The crash is still under investigation.
