Hamden man arrested in fatal motorcycle crash

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Hamden man was arrested Friday after his passenger was killed when he crashed a motorcycle into a wall while driving on a New Haven sidewalk last summer.

Police say at around 3 a.m. on July 19th, 36-year-old Dean Williams was driving a Polaris Slingshot, which is a three wheeled motorcycle, on Whalley Avenue near the intersection of West Park Avenue, when in order to avoid impact with another car, he drove on to the sidewalk.

While traveling on the sidewalk, his motorcycle struck a cement wall, then a tree that grew from the wall, causing the motorcycle to roll over.  His front seat passenger, Kevin Lee Lewis died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.

Police say the actions of Williams were the sole cause of the death of Mr. Lewis. Williams was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failure to drive in proper lane.
