Warming centers available during severe cold weather

(WTNH)– To help keep people warm in the severe cold weather, several cities are opening up warming centers this week.  Below is a list of warming centers available:

Bloomfield:

  • The Alvin & Beatrice Wood Human Services Center – 330 Park Avenue, Open 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday & Friday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 7 p.m – 9 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
  • Prosser Library – 1 Tunxis Avenue, Open 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday & Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • McMahon Wintonbury Library – 1015 Blue Hills Avenue, Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday.
  • Blue Hills Fire Department, Open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Bristol:

  • Salvation Army – Bristol Corps Community Center -19 Stearns Street, Open 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday – Friday.
  • Bristol Community Organization – 45 South Main Street, Open 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday (Bristol Residents Only).

Canton:

  • Community Center – 40 Dyer Avenue, Open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
  • Canton Public Library – 40 Dyer Avenue, Open 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday & Saturday.

Danbury:

  • Danbury City Shelter – 41 New Street, Open 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Daily.
  • Good Samaritan Day Center – 13 Maple Avenue, Open 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Daily

East Hartford:

  • The Public Safety Complex Lobby at 31 School Street, open 24 hours, 7 days a week
  • South End Senior Center at 70 Canterbury Street, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday

Ellington:

  • Ellington Senior Center – 40 Maple Street, Open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Friday.
  • Hall Memorial Library – 93 Main Street, Open 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday & Saturday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday.

Enfield:

  • Holy Trinity Episcopal Church – 32 Hazard Avenue, Open 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Daily January 25 – March 1.

Glastonbury:

  • Riverfront Community Center, Open 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Closed Monday, February 15 for President’s Day.
  • Welles Turner Library, Open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday. Closed Monday, February 15 for President’s Day.

Griswold:

  • Griswold Fire House – Route 138, Remains open until further notice. Pets are permitted.

Hamden:

  • Miller Memorial Library – 2901 Dixwell Avenue.
  • Police HQ Foyer – 2900 Dixwell Avenue.
  • Community Branch Library – 91 Circular Avenue.
  • Whitneyville Library – 125 Carleton Street.
  • Hamden Government Center – 2750 Dixwell Avenue.

Hartford:

  • The Salvation Army Rec Center at 100 Nelson Street will provide daytime shelter from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Sunday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
  • Stewart B. McKinney Shelter – 34 Huyshope Avenue: 88 beds with 13 additional cots provided by the City of Hartford. Phone: 860-757-0660, Open 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Friday through Sunday. (First come first serve.)
  • Immaculate Conception Shelter – 574 Park Street: 75 beds with 75 additional cots provided by the City of Hartford, Open at 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Friday through Sunday. (First come first serve.)
  • Open Hearth Shelter – 437 Sheldon Street: 25 beds. Phone: 860-525-3447, Open at 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Friday through Sunday. (First come first serve.)
  • Asylum Hill Congregational Church – 814 Asylum Avenue: 50 cots provided by the City of Hartford. Phone: (860) 525-5696, Open 5 p.m. – 7 a.m. Friday through Sunday.
  • Harford Rescue Mission – 650 Windsor Street: 75 cots provided by the City of Hartford. Phone: 860-241-0989, Open 24 hours Friday through Sunday.

Madison:

  • Senior Center – 29 Bradley Road, Open until 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.
  • Town Gym – 4 Campus Drive, Open until 9 p.m. Friday.

Mansfield:

  • Mansfield Community Center – 10 S. Eagleville Road, Open 5:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday.
  • Mansfield Senior Center – 303 Maple Road, Open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Monroe:

New Haven:

  • City libraries will be open during the day as warming centers
  • Overnight warming centers offered, as well as additional room at homeless shelters
  • Bethel AME Church Warming Center – 255 Goffe Street, Open 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Daily. (Single Adults Only – No Children).
  • Church on the Rock Overnight Warming Center – 95 Hamilton Street, Open 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Daily for Men & Women.

North Haven:

  • North Haven Montowese Firehouse at 282 Quinnipiac Ave. Hours of Operation: Staffed for a 48 hour period by North Haven FD Volunteers, Saturday 8:00 – Monday 8:00.

Portland:

  • Portland Public Library – 20 Freestone Avenue, Open 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday.

Simsbury:

  • Simsbury Library at 725 Hopmeadow Street 860 658-7663 (Lower Level). Hours: Friday and Saturday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Sunday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Southington:

  • Southington Calendar House – 388 Pleasant Street, Open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday – Friday.
  • Southington Police Dept. Public Assembly Room – 69 Lazy Lane, Open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.

South Windsor:

  • South Windsor Community Center – 150 Nevers Road, Open 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Thursday & Friday, 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. Saturday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday. (Handicapped accessible. No pets allowed. Not just for South Windsor Residents. Bring reading materials & money for vending machine if desired).
  • South Windsor Public Library – 1550 Sullivan Avenue, Open 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday & Sunday (Not a shelter. Open to the public. Handicapped accessible. No pets).

Stamford:

  • Chester Addison Community Center – 245 Selleck Street, Open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.
  • Government Center – 888 Washington Blvd, 1st Floor Lobby, Open 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Sunday.
  • Jewish Community Center – 1035 Newfield Avenue, Open 5:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 5:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • Glenbrook Community Center – 35 Crescent Street, Open 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Stratford:

  • All firehouses are available as warming centers beginning 6 p.m. Friday until midnight on Monday. 24/7 access.

Torrington:

  • Torrington Armory – 153 South Main Street, Open 1 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.

Waterbury:

  • The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Waterbury will open its shelter at 114 Benedict Street for 24 hours throughout the weekend.
  • The St. Vincent de Paul Society Soup Kitchen at 327 Baldwin Street will be open Saturday and Sunday until 1 p.m.
  • Silas Bronson Library, 267 Grand Street, will be open as a warming center Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. A conference room in the Library’s lower level will be open as a warming center on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Workers will be on site to direct people to the center.
  • Higher Calling Ministry, 42 Bank Street, second floor, will have its warming shelter open throughout the weekend.
  • A hospitality center at 693 East Main Street will also be open Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., closing Monday morning

West Hartford:

  • West Hartford Libraries (Faxon Branch) – 1073 New Britain Avenue, Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • Noah Webster Library – 20 South Main Street, Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • Bishops Corner Branch – 15 Starkel Road, Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • West Farms Mall hours are 10 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday.

West Haven:

  • A warming center will be open  Friday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the basement conference room of City Hall, 355 Main St.
  • West Have Public Library – 300 Elm Street, Open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday.

Winchester:

  • Blanche McCarthy Senior Center – 80 Holabird Avenue, Open 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Friday.
  • Open Door Soup Kitchen – 160 Main Street, Open 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. – 1 p .m. Monday.
  • Beardsley & Memorial Library – 40 Munro Place, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Those in need of overnight shelter can go to the Winchester Police Dept. at 338 Main Street where they will be assisted.
