WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Five fire companies as well as police officers out of Westport responded to a kitchen fire that had been, they discovered on arrival, successfully extinguished by the sprinkler system.
Around 10:30 p.m., the Westport Fire Department met with members of the Westport Police Department on a report of a kitchen fire on Post Road East. Police officers had already evacuated all of the residents there.
Upon entering the home, fire officials determined that a sprinkler head in the kitchen had been activated, and had successfully contained and extinguished the fire. Still, crews worked to ensure there was no fire extension and, following that determination, worked to salvage and overhaul the damages from smoke and water.
The Westport Fire Department’s Fire Marshals Office investigated the incident, while the Westport Housing Authority and the Red Cross assisted those displaced in finding temporary housing.
