Well the wind chill value this afternoon was around 20 degrees but I’m sitting in 75 degree temperatures with a garden all around me. This is the Connecticut Flower and Garden Show and there is a ton of cool stuff to check out here. Let’s take a look.
Let’s take a journey together…to a time much warmer, filled with acres of fresh flowers, plants, and trees. Sadly smell o vision hasn’t been invented so you’ll have to head up to Hartford if your green thumb is getting a little bit itcy.
[Kristie Gonsalves, Event Producer, 35th Connecticut Flower and Garden Show] Planting season is just right around the corner and if you are going to beautify your yard or your garden you’ll have thousands of ideas. There are gardening experts here. Landscape gardens, seminars and a lot of things to buy for your home and yard.
If you want to marvel at some of the displays, every year a special “theme” is set.
[Jane Waugh, Pres of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut] So this years theme “in the spotlight” features things fro opera, the circus, dance. We’ve taken all of the entertainment fields and created topics, themes for all of the designers.
It’s about so much more than just flowers. Over 300 booths have been set up with displays, activities, and handcrafted gifts, many of which are from right here in Connecticut. And there are plenty of things for the kids to do as well!
We draw from all over the state, Rhode Island, Vermont, Mass. So with a nicer weekend, we’re hoping those folks can come visit us this year.
The show is open all the way through Sunday so come up to the Hartford Convention Center to check it out. I’m Meteorologist Sam Kantrow, back to you.
