Ex-principal caught dragging students loses teaching license

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State education officials have decided not to renew the teaching license of a former Bridgeport principal who was caught on camera dragging kindergarten children down a hallway.

The state Board of Education voted unanimously on the decision on Wednesday.

Carmen Perez-Dickson was suspended after a public hearing in 2013. She then retired after coming off suspension and applied in May 2014 to renew her teaching certificate.

The Bridgeport woman was seen on videotape dragging kindergarten children down a corridor in the Tisdale School in February and March of 2012. Staff also accused her of hitting children.

Dickson told the board that she “never intended to hurt a child.” Her attorney says there will be an appeal on the decision to the Superior Court.
