Fire breaks out in multi-family New Haven home

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A fire broke out in a multi-family New Haven home Thursday morning.

The New Haven fire department says the fire broke out just before 6 a.m. at 704 Winchester Avenue, between Bassett Street and Highland Street.

Winchester Avenue was closed on both the northbound and southbound sides, north of Starr Street, while crews checked the home for hot spots.

Fire officials on the scene tell News 8 that they searched all three floors of the home and it appeared that everyone had gotten out safely.

Officials say that the second and third floors of the home appear to be vacant but that there is a family living on the first floor. The Red Cross will be helping those victims with a place to stay for the day.

Fire Crews have ruled the fire as accidental.
