CALUMET CITY, Illinois (WTNH)– A young transgender woman died after ingesting exotic seeds she purchased online for just $5.

According to the New York Daily News, 22-year-old Lucia Anderson died last month after eating pong pong seeds that she purchased online. The seeds are grown from a plant in Thailand called the “suicide tree.”

Lucia’s mother, Natosha Anderson, told an ABC affiliate that she found Lucia laying on the bathroom floor after being sick for hours and complaining that she couldn’t feel her heart. Lucia admitted that she had intentionally ingested the seeds she bought online and died later at the hospital.

Anderson said her child’s death was slow and painful and that she was not aware of her daughter’s suicidal thoughts. She said Lucia recently desired to live her life as a woman and was bullied because of it.

Anderson says that she is speaking out to warn other parents of how easy it is to purchase these heart stopping seeds online.

“I can go online and purchase something for $5 – $5 and that can literally devastate a family and kill someone. I don’t understand,” Anderson told ABC7.

The NY Daily News reports that listings on websites like Amazon and eBay say the seed is for decoration. While pong pong seeds are relatively unknown in the U.S., its poison, cerberin, is used regularly for suicides and murders in some parts of Asia.
