NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The dangers of texting and walking. It sounds silly, but it’s actually a serious issue.

A new study shows the number of pedestrians killed in traffic accidents has gone up 10 percent from the year before. And over the past five years, those deaths have increased 19 percent.

Take a look at just*how distracted you are when your eyes are glued to the phone. This guy walks right into a wall. Or, How about this? A bear wandering through a front yard and this man almost walks right into him before he even notices the bear is there. This mother was texting while holding her three-month-old daughter when she fell.

“Right as I was pressing send I stepped off the curb and twisted both of my ankles,” said Francie Webb.

Her daughter wasn’t hurt, but she was on crutches for weeks. The bottom line, be careful.
