Man arrested for trying to prevent deer hunting

GLASTONBURY, Conn (WTNH)  –  A Glastonbury man has been arrested for attempting to keep his neighbor from hunting deer.

Glastonbury Police have charged 49 year old Derek Oatis of Bayberry Road with interfering with the lawful taking of wildlife.   According to police Oatis took a hunter’s tree stand from his neighbor’s property to prevent bow hunting of deer in the area.

Police say the theft occurred on November 23rd and Oatis turned himself in on February 17th and released on a promise to appear in court.   According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website Oatis is scheduled to be arraigned for a harassment of hunter charge on March 9th in Manchester Superior Court.
