West Haven, Conn. (WTNH)- West Haven police encountered a troubling scene when they were called to a home on North Place shortly before 1-thirty on Tuesday morning.
Authorities say they found 34 year old Lamar Heyward holding a 21 month old child tightly and refusing to hand the little girl over to authorities. Finally, police had to use force to take the child from Heyward. A short time earlier, police say the child’s mother called 9-1-1 claiming that Heyward put a pilling on top of the sleeping girl and then picked her up squeezing her tightly against his chest.
The mother says despite her pleas to stop, Heyward continued to squeeze the girl, eventually causing her to vomit. A roommate was trying to help the mother take the girl from Heyward as police arrived at the scene.
The child was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. She has minor injuries to her face as a result of being squeezed so tightly. Heyward faces charges that include risk of injury to a child, reckless endangerment, interfering with police and disorderly conduct.
