Man injured in fall from cliff in East Haddam state park

EAST HADDAM, Conn. (AP) — A man has been flown by helicopter to a Hartford hospital after falling from a cliff at Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the 24-year-old Moodus man was sitting on the cliff with three companions when he fell into a heavily wooded and rocky area below.

The agency was notified of the fall around 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

Rescue workers had to traverse more than a mile into the woods to reach the man and carry him out. A Life Star helicopter that landed at a nearby golf course flew him to Hartford Hospital.

Officials said the man appeared to have serious injuries.
