Two arrested after Torrington forest fire

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men are facing charges after state police say they intentionally started a fire that burned down nearly 14 acres of the Paugnut State Forest in Torrington.

According to state police, police and multiple fire departments responded to extinguish the flames around 12:30 pm on Wednesday. Officials from the Connecticut Wildland Fire Forestry Division and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded to the scene to assist the Torrington Fire Marshal’s Office and the state police Fire & Explosion unit in the investigation.

Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally started by “human hand”.

Police identified the suspects and arrested 19 year-old David Korot, of Torrington, and 21 year-old Vincenzo Marino. Their bonds were set at $5,000.
