DERBY, Conn. (WTNH) – Walmart has announced it is closing its store in Derby.  The chain blames a number of factors, including performance and how the store fits into Walmart’s long-term plans.  The store at 656 New Haven Avenue will close July 29.  The store has about 150 employees.  Walmart says it is hoping to find them jobs at neighboring stores including Shelton, Stratford and Milford.

“We have a strong track record of finding jobs for associates who want to transfer to nearby stores. We operate three stores within 10 miles of Derby and are hopeful that the vast majority of associates will be able to transfer to one of these stores in the coming weeks and months” a release from the company said.
