NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH)– It is Saint Patrick’s Day and some people had their dancing shoes on and were ready to celebrate at an early hour.
News 8’s Renee Chmiel was at Horgan Academy of Irish Dance in Naugatuck to show us what they’d be doing Thursday morning.

The dancers count down to the event for months. This year’s festivities were even more special. They danced 100 jig steps to celebrate Ireland’s 100th birthday. They expected that would take several hours.
“It’s absolutely wonderful. It’s our heritage,” said Maureen Horgan, Co-Director of the Academy. “It’s part of our family tradition. We have passed that on to a new generation of Irish dancers here in Naugatuck.”
The public was invited to celebrate with the dancers and to help them dance the 100 steps.
