1 dead, 2 injured after lighting strikes at music festival

LAROSE, La. (AP) — Officials say one woman has died and two others were injured after lightning struck a campsite at a music festival in Larose.

Media outlets report Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says in a statement that 28-year-old Jacqui Stavis of New Orleans was found unresponsive in a tent Friday night at the T-Bois Blue Festival.

She was pronounced dead at a hospital Saturday.

Officials say two other women who were in the same tent were injured and hospitalized. Officials say their injuries were associated with electric shock. Both remained in the hospital as of Sunday. Their identities haven’t been released.

Webre said the three women had retreated into a small personal tent during a thunderstorm near the festival grounds.

He says a dog also died during the incident.
