Glastonbury daycare director, worker arrested on risk of injury charges

Meegan Beach and Nicole Mayo

GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WTNH)– A Glastonbury daycare worker was arrested Friday for allegedly hitting toddlers who were in her care.

Police say 22-year-old Nicole Mayo, of Wethersfield, was arrested after an investigation into accusations of child abuse at The Stork Club daycare, located at 586 New London Turnpike. Mayo is accused of hitting, restraining and roughly handling several 2-year-old victims at the daycare over the past year.

On Monday, police also arrested the director of Stork Club daycare, 40-year-old Meegan Beach. Police say Beach had been made aware of Mayo’s alleged abusive behavior towards children, but failed to notify authorities about the ongoing abuse occurring in the day care facility. As a day care provider, Beach is mandated to report child abuse by state law.

The Department of Children and Families informed Glastonbury police of the complaint in December 2015 and police opened a criminal investigation.

Mayo has been charged with three counts of risk of injury and disorderly conduct. She was held on $65,000 bond and is expected to appear in court April 6.

Beach is being held on a $45,000 bond.
