Investigation underway into fire aboard vessel

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) – An investigation is underway into what caused a fire aboard a vessel near Cerberus Shoal on Sunday.

A father of one of the mariners notified Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound that the 50-foot long liner Long Shot was burning near Fisher’s Island. The crew members had abandoned ship and boarded a life raft.

Station New London crew members rescued the mariners and life raft around 7:15 a.m. on Sunday. No injuries were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
