GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WTNH)– Kelly Murning lives in Middletown, and is picking up her daughter at the Storks Club Daycare Center in Glastonbury just minutes after director Megan Beach was arrested on Monday for failure to report child abuse.
“When DCF got involved I was told everything,” Murning said.
Sgt. Corey Davis of the Glastonbury Police Department says Beach was told one of her staff members, 22-year-old Nicole Mayo had been abusing 2-year-olds in her class, and did not report it, which she is required to do by law.
“She was accused of hitting a few two-year-old children. She was accused of roughly handling them. And she was also accused of force-feeding them,” Davis said.
“Force-feeding?” News 8 asked.
“Force force feeding them until they vomited, yes,” said Davis.
Police will not rule out whether or not there will be more arrests or charges added, and aren’t commenting on whether or not the investigation is even closed. They are playing it pretty close to the vest because there are young children involved.
A grandmother picking up her granddaughter doesn’t want to be identified. She says her family has to re-evaluate the Storks Club Daycare.
“She was in with her, and you know, people appear very nice. You would never know, I would never know that that was going on,” she said.
News 8 asked if her granddaughter show any signs of being abused.
“No. She has had many accident reports from here, but no, no, and I was just talking to her now, and she says no, no one has ever hit me. But she was in that room.”
Bail has been set at $45,000 for beach and $65,000 for Mayo.
